Rainier National Park.\u00a0 There was a tragedy in the park.\u00a0 A young man, believed to be Benjamin Colton Barnes,\u00a0 had severe mental problems \u2013 possibly PTSD from service in Iraq.\u00a0 He shot several people near Seattle on New year\u2019s Eve.\u00a0 He may also have been involved in another shooting incident that night.\u00a0 On New Year\u2019s Day Barnes he fled to Mt. Rainier National Park.<\/p>\n<p>Park police had a checkpoint set up to make sure people had chains because of the snowy conditions in the park.\u00a0 Someone blew through that checkpoint.\u00a0 One of the rangers followed that person.\u00a0 Another ranger, Margaret Anderson, set up a roadblock to stop the person who ran the checkpoint.\u00a0 As she was getting out of a vehicle she was shot and killed.\u00a0 Police believe Barnes was the shooter.\u00a0 Barnes was later found dead in the Park.\u00a0 The cause of death is believed to be hypothermia \u2013 he was\u00a0 found in a snowy stream in a T-shirt and jeans.<\/p>\n<p>Before Barnes was found dead, rangers had rounded up all of the park visitors and evacuated them.\u00a0 They were afraid for their safety.\u00a0 Afraid that Barnes would try to kidnap or harm some of them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webblawmaine.com\/blog\/changing-gun-law-save-lives\/\"  title=\"Continue Reading Changing a gun law won\u2019t save lives\" class=\"more-link\">Continue Reading \u203a<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In yesterday\u2019s paper there was an article about a shooting in Mt.
